Dr. Obolsky’s Forensic Bio

Dr. Obolsky is board-certified and trained in General, Forensic and Addiction Psychiatry. With over 20 years of experience in the field, he has evaluated and treated patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other psychiatric and neurobehavioral disorders.  His expertise lies in the evaluation and treatment of sequelae of physical and emotional trauma in employment, medical, and legal settings. He has been featured in the “America’s Top Psychiatrists” guide in the areas of conflict, stress, and trauma.

Dr. Obolsky’s clinical private practice includes treatment of adults with a wide range of psychiatric issues and disorders with an emphasis on trauma. He is an assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at The Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, and teaches medical students.

As a forensically trained psychiatrist, Dr. Obolsky has worked on cases ranging from catastrophic plane crash injuries, work-related injuries, fraud and financial embezzlement, wrongful incarceration, sexual harassment, and medication toxicity, to the evaluation of sex offenders and serial killers facing the death penalty.

Dr. Obolsky received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Northwestern University. He completed psychiatric residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and his Forensic Psychiatric Fellowship at Loyola University, School of Medicine. His past professional experience consists of teaching at Northwestern University Law School and serving as an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He also founded and managed the Division of Forensic Psychiatry at the Northwestern University Medical School, was co-Director of the Professionals at Risk Program, founded and managed the Psychiatry and Law Program at the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, and served as an Assistant Medical Director at one of the largest forensic psychiatric hospitals for the criminally insane.

Dr. Obolsky lectures extensively, both nationally and internationally, to medical, legal and insurance groups. Because of his professional expertise and dynamic speaking skills, Dr. Obolsky is often quoted in the media, and is frequently retained as an expert witness in the area of psychological and physical trauma to evaluate for psychiatric causation and damages.
